Food
Breakfast: bowl of cereal
Morning snack: banana
Lunch: BIG salad w/fattening dressing on the side, BIG slice of yummy bread :)
Afternoon snack: granola bar
Dinner: Garden burger (with bun), couscous
Exercise
I spent 2 hours at the grocery store buying healthy food so that counted as my exercise. No time for anything else.
Series of leg lifts, squats, and crunches
I ate lunch at a restaurant so it was hard to be good. It is my favorite salad and bread so I had to have it!

Jill - Day Four
Today was kind of rough. I am such a stressful eater! I have been working on a proposal that has been kind of tough and we are really slow at work so I feel the pressure of bringing in the work...and one day I thrive on the pressure and get alot done...and the next day I crumble under the pressure and want to curl up on the couch and eat. Today was the later of the two...
Food:
breakfast: cereal
snack: banana
lunch: tempeh, pita, salad, yogurt
stress: two handfuls of Mike and Ikes...a diet coke (my first diet coke since conception)
snack: whole wheat crackers (a bunch of them)
dinner: couscous w/ Parmesan cheese and green beans (two bites of smoked gouda)
So I guess I didn't do too bad...but I kept making trips to the kitchen at work scrounging for food. That's when I gave in to the allure of the candy machine. I haven't had candy at work for about 2 weeks (okay maybe one other time in the last 2 weeks)...which is a huge improvement from this time last month.
Exercise: 20 minute walk with Deacon after work. It was about 60 degrees here today! :) I hope that it is nice this weekend so that we can spend some time outside.

Lori - Day Three
Food
Breakfast: bowl of cereal
Lunch: bowl of soup (Healthy Request Wedding Soup), apple
Snack: granola bar, gum
Dinner: chicken, couscous, veggie mix (corn, asparagus, carrots)
Exercise
20 minute walk (outside - yeah!)
30 minutes treadmill (walking at 10 level incline, run/walk intervals)
Tyler was home sick again today so I did some baby squats to help get him to sleep. :)
I am giving up chips for Lent. I don't count popcorn as chips. I make my own rules. :)
I think I'm going to peek at my weight on Friday morning. It is so hard not to and while I plan to be good over the weekend who knows what that will bring. I feel good so far this week!!

Jill - Day Three
breakfast: cereal
snack: banana
lunch: mashed potatoes, black bean burger (no bread), salad (ff dressing)
snack: yogurt, apple
dinner: TVP sloppy joes, rye bread, green beans
exercise: 20 minute pilates video...it is nice to know that Maurie hasn't changed over the years. :)
I drank lots of tea (caffeine free) today which counts as water. But I could still probably stand to drink more.
I also went to the doctor today...so I got another peak at the scale. Now I am excited to weigh-in on Monday and inspired to keep it up (or down, I guess)...you know what I mean.

One Day Closer to My Goal!
Yesterday was great. I ate well and made it to the gym. Here's what I ate:
breakfast:
cereal and milk
pre-lunch snack:
banana and yogurt (weight watcher peach flavor = yummy)
lunch:
broccoli soup (low fat/low sodium)
whole wheat crackers
afternoon snack:
apple
predinner snacks:
handful of almonds
bites of tofu
dinner:
miso noodle soup with tofu, mushrooms, spinach, carrots, gr. onions (made by Matt)
We put Deacon down around 6:30 and then I headed to the gym while Matt made dinner. At the gym I did 20 mins on the eliptical trainer and 20 mins on the treadmill (10 running and 10 walking). I don't have the stamina that I used to but it still felt great to work out!
Now about weighing-in. I know that I advocated for only weighing once a week but...I really started "trying" last week and I did pretty well with my food choices but I only exercised once. I weighed myself last Monday and again this Monday...and I hadn't lost anything!!! So this morning I woke up feeling nice and skinny...so I weighed myself again...and the scale had moved! :) So I am going to use this peak at the scale as motivation to stick to my plan...and try not to peak again til next Monday!
Looking back at what I ate yesterday, I should have had another 1/2 serving of protein and another piece of fruit.
Good Luck on Day Two!
xoxo

Gooooood Luck!
Good luck with boot camp! Where is it? How many in the group? How long each day?
I decided to wait to start my "diet" until Wed. Mardi Gras is of course on Tues and Lent starts Wed. Lots to give up and work on over Lent for me.
hmmm- my diet... well, I guess no chocolate for me this lent, or icecream (loooove that stuff), no cake.
Mike is doing great with his running routine. Alyson is in track season so he often has a running buddy.
So I will not talk about my cuttent diet these past few days (it has sucked....candy, lots of food, eating all kinds of food....Mmmm)

Lori - Day One
Food
Breakfast: Bowl of cereal (with skim milk)
Lunch: Ham sandwich, carrots and 2 tbsp light ranch dressing
I was hoping to get a run in yesterday but I was exhausted so I settled for pilates. I feel great after day one so I hope the rest of the week will be the same.
No official bootcamp (although that would be cool)... I'm just considering this week a bootcamp for myself. I think the biggest change is that I'm conscious of what I'm putting in my mouth and not snacking on everything I see. I think it will make a difference.

And we're off!!!!!
Today begins the bootcamp week!
My overall weight goal: Lose 10 pounds (not all this week... but some would be great)
Personal goals:
- Drink more water
- Suck in my stomach most of the day
- Improve my posture
- Move around every hour
- Eat more fruits and veggies
- Exercise often
I plan to post a daily diary of my efforts. I don't plan to weigh myself again until next Monday. Hope it is a good week!

To weigh or not to weigh!
I am gearing up for the bootcamp week starting next Monday! I've been trying to be better about getting to the gym, running, sucking in my stomach, and not eating every piece of chocolate that is within a 50 foot radius. I couldn't dedicate this week as my first week because mom will be here for most of it and I'll have more reason to deviate from my plan. So I'm letting myself eat like a normal person this week... and then cracking down on Monday. I'm excited to see what will happen if I really put forth some effort... even if it is just a 1 week effort. Don't get me wrong.. I realize I won't lose all my weight in one week. I just want a really good week to motivate me to keep going!
So... do you weigh yourselves every day? I'm debating whether or not I will weigh myself each day after I start the bootcamp or if I'll wait til the whole week is over. I'd hope to be motivated if I see some early results but I think I would be bummed if I was actually working at it and the scale wasn't changing. What do you plan to do?

Me too
Motivation is a huge factor for me too. I used to have good self-control when it came to food choices and good motivation when it came to working out...but not anymore. I used to really enjoy working out, and I probably still do, I just don't make time for it. But I am working on changing that. I recently joined a gym and have been trying to work out on my lunch break. My goal is to work out at least twice during the week and once on the weekend. Yesterday I did 30 minutes of cardio so I am off to a good start this week. I am going to try to work out every day next week as my version of Lori's bootcamp. So I am in pre-training mode right now, and I like it. :)

Jill
BTW, I have been using the "I am breastfeeding so I can eat more" theory for the past 11 months too...but I am probably going to stop breastfeeding after Deacon turns 1...so I need to make some changes now!

Motivation....
Hmmm...well I seem to have a problem with motivation. I mean I do want to lose weight, be healthier, and get my body back...but then again I sometimes don't really care.
I can make the excuse that it is hard to find time. When I work (MWTh) I like to come home and spend all my time with ISabel, I hate being away from her all day so any second I can I love to play with her. My days off is not problem, so that is nice...plus the built in bbsitter is awesome.
Just need to get motivated I guess. Plan to go tomorrow when with my sisters after school. Work out usually consists of 30 min tredmill and some sort of lifting. Need to figure out how to get there on the days I work...when do you all go?
What I ate today....
Breakfast- I think I forgot to eat that today...opps
Lunch-Hammcheese on bread, tostitos, berries, and half a cupcake thing
Snack-egg asparagus spinach thing
Dinner- ckn salad with pita, ckn noodle soup homemade
dessert-baklava, poundcake with strawberries
and may have a bite of something bc im still hungry. :) but hey I am still nursing so im burning more calories right?
Ok...well i should take my stats. My weight-125, but measurement not sure. Need to find a place that takes BMI too-prpoerly, not the cheating way.
One good thing about work is I am on my feet all day long :)

What should I eat?
My company has started a new health initiative that involves a "Health Smart" website and contact with a health coach. I just signed up for this service, so we'll see if it helps. There seems to be a lot of good info on the website. In the nutrition section you are asked to input your height, weight, and age and it supplies you with a list of what you should be eating. Here is the recommended list for females ranging in height from 5' to 5'3"and weight from 120 to 150 lbs.
Grains: 5.0 servings (5 ounces, half cups, or slices)
Vegetables: 3.0 servings (1.5 cups)
Fruit: 3.0 servings (1.5 cups)
Low or non-fat dairy: 2.0 servings (2 cups milk/yogurt or 2 slices or quarter cups cheese)
Lean meats or meat substitutes: 1.5 servings (4.5 ounces)
Healthy fats: 3.0 servings (3 teaspoons)
After meeting the above servings, you can also spend (eat) up to 200 fun/splurge calories per day and still maintain your recommended, healthy weight.
I don't know about you, but this seems like a ton of food to me. I probably eat too many grains and not enough fruits and veggies...and they seem to have forgotten the chocolate category?!
Good nutrition is all about balance. Getting too much or too little of any one food group can put you at risk. Based on your age, gender, and the recommended weight for your height, you should take in the following number of servings from each food group per day. Please keep in mind that these numbers are designed to support optimal health within your medically ideal weight range. The servings and calories are not what you need to maintain your current weight, unless you are already at your ideal weight. Taking in more or less from any food group is not better.

I love it!!
I love it! I think that this is a fabulous idea. I really need something to help me get motivated and stay motivated. My goal is to lose the rest of my baby weight (8-10 lbs) by Deacon's first birthday.
I would also love to hear how and what all of you are doing. I know that Jenn and Mikey are starting to train for the half marathon...keep us posted!!

Good Idea...
Almost 8 months ago I delived the most beautiful little girl in the world, although I did lose the massive amount the weight I put on with her, my body is just NOT where it needs to be. Hello, I still look prego after I eat-yuck.
I eat like crap, and know it; do not exercise as much as I should, and know it. I will at least give this a try!
Oh- and to share a little story...my brother decided he wanted to lose 5% of his body weight in 2 weeks. And he did, actually lost more, 13 # in 2 weeks! NOT fair! Just not as easy for me :(

Fitness Challenge
I don't know about you guys but I need something to jump start my fitness routine. I need to be accountable for the food I'm putting in my body and the exercise that I should be getting. The best way I can think of to do that is to publish my goals, my plan to achieve them, and then to celebrate my success (or look for support if I fail).
I intend to do a boot camp week - February 23rd thru March 2nd - to kick my butt into gear. I'm going to publish a daily food journal of everything that I put into my mouth (including drinks, gum, everything). I'll also post any exercise that I do. I want to see what 1 good week will do for me. I'm hoping it will motivate me to continue down the right path to healthy living... or at least help me get closer to the weight I'd like to be. :)
I'll add all of you as authors to this site so that you can do the same. What do you say... are you with me??? Let's help motivate each other!
